Hello! I'm Calum.

I am excited to pivot my career and use my skills to craft seamless interfaces that delight users.

About Me
University and pre-tech
I studied Spanish at university, where I developed a deep appreciation for communication, culture, and human interaction. Living abroad in Valencia for a year taught me to navigate new environments, stay curious, and adapt quickly – skills that now shape how I approach designing for diverse users.

Discovering the web
After graduating, I discovered an interest in technology and began teaching myself to code. Within two months, I enrolled in an intensive software engineering bootcamp in Shoreditch. The fast-paced, collaborative nature of Brainstation’s programme mirrored many of the values that later drew me to UX: problem-solving, iteration, and empathy for the end user.

Beginning my career
Soon after, I joined ATLAS as a front-end developer, where I began to see how interface design choices directly impacted the user experience. This interest deepened during my time at Karmen, where I worked as a full-stack developer with full creative control. With no designated designer on the team, I had more say when it came to the product’s look and feel – designing clean, consistent interfaces.

Focusing on my strengths
Now, I’m shifting my focus towards design full-time. My professional experience in development gives me a strong technical foundation and understanding of the web, but what excites me the most is the opportunity to shape intuitive, thoughtful experiences from the ground up. I’m looking to join a team where I can grow as a designer and contribute to building meaningful, user-centered products.
